A look into one of Jack's Bistro locations.

Jack’s Bistro has two locations: Santa Barbara and Carpinteria. Let’s take a post or two to chat a little bit about the cities which we call home. First up, is Santa Barbara.

Santa Barbara is located in the state of California in Santa Barbara county. It is in the south facing section of the coastline, making it the longest section on the west coast. It originated as Mission Santa Barbara and was a Spanish mission led by Padre Fermin Lasuen. The city was the tenth of the California missions to be founded by the Spanish Franciscans. It was established on the Feast of St. Barbara, and thereby named after the saint as well on December 4, 1786. The purpose of the mission was to spearhead religious conversion of the indigenous local Chumash-Barbareno tribe of Native America people. The mission is the namesake of the city itself and was incorporated April 9, 1850. Santa Barbara is nestled in between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

Santa Barbara has an estimated population of 91,930 people, and is governed by Cathy Murillo, the city’s mayor. There are multiple national parks and forests located within and around city that are great for hiking and wilderness, including Los Padres National Forest and Channel Islands National Park.

Santa Barbara is filled with various attractions and fun things to do. Mission Santa Barbara, which was rebuilt after being destroyed by two separate earthquakes, stands the mission in its Spanish architecture. State Street is the city’s most famous avenue. It cuts through downtown Santa Barbara and is lined with shops, art galleries, theaters, and museums. The art scene of the city is captured there. States Street leads to Stearns Wharf, which is a historic pier filled with dining and shopping-a perfect follow up activity after the bustle of State Street. The Santa Barbara Zoo exists with hundreds of different animals to spend your time with. And of course, being on the west coastline, there are the beaches. Santa Barbara beaches are great for lounging around, playing beach volleyball, or throwing a frisbee with friends.

Most importantly, Santa Barbara is the home of Jack’s Bistro, located on Milpas Street. To keep yourself fueled while exploring the city, Jack’s Bistro gives you excellent breakfast and lunch options that you can eat in or take out, whether you are picnicking on the beach, at a park, or in the comfort of your own home. We started in Santa Barbara to bring the city some of the best bread options, and have only expanded from there, serving a community that we have been glad to called home for over 20 years.
